About digest magazine

Who We Are

This is a Web site for digest magazine, a one-time publication created by the University of Minnesota's School of Journalism Magazine Production class. The class gives students firsthand experience with the organization and working of an editorial and production staff, while learning the implications of specific divisions of labor. Each student holds a staff job and either writes an article or produces art. The theme of this semester's magazine is 'Food Beyond the Plate.' It explores the cultural, scientific, political and economic aspects of the universal need for nourishment. As the magazine stories, photographs, and Web stories explore the role of food in our lives, Digest gives readers the story behind the food they eat.

Our Mission

digest is a one-time magazine for people who care about food beyond the plate. It explores the cultural, scientific, political and economic aspects of the universal need for nourishment. Through profiles of chefs, farmers and restaurants; in-depth stories on food-related issues; service journalism on becoming a smarter consumer; commentary on the role of food in our lives, and engaging photography and art in print and on the Web, digest gives readers the story behind the food they eat.
