Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee

Copy by Erik Helin

Sandra Lee cooking and eating pizza- what can I say? This video was basically my muse when writing the article "Food Fetish."

Pause it at 1:05 and notice the sweaty, visceral nature of the slice of pizza. Then, pause it at 1:14 and tell me the true motives behind this shot. If anything illustrates gastroporn, it's this clip.

Food Fetish

It's true that sex sells⎯ and using sex to sell food is easier than nearly every other product. In this ad (hilariously flagged as unsuitable content for children), Paris Hilton is horny⎯ horny for a burger.

As she crawls across the floor, what is she really insinuating? The porn sax and breathy symbols swelling behind it all makes it pretty clear that Paris is looking for sex. Her desire is quelled with the new Spicy BBQ Burger. Instead of "That's hot," the tagline could easily have been "As good as sex."

Red Stag SupperClub Profile

By Pamela Koller

The Red Stag Supperclub, located in northeast Minneapolis, is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) registered restaurant in Minnesota. Owners and sisters Kari and Kim Bartmann followed their vision to create a green building that balances environmental responsibility, resource efficiency and the comfort and well-being of their workforce. The design and construction team of Studio 2030 and WonderWoman Construction followed the LEED-CI guidelines from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and the team anticipates a Gold LEED-CI Certification.

New technologies such as the using Dyson AirBlade hand dryers, European-style low flow toilets, and LED candles which flicker safely without the flame and give the aura of candlelight cut energy use drastically. Other sustainable measures taken include serving local & organic foods as much as possible, and the all-in-the-family recycling tactic utilizing the bar stools and beer can collection from Bartmanns' uncle's bar.
